“Greetings,

It is a fantastic portrait with amazing colour.

I am the costumer featured in this image. The character is Darth Bane (you may click anywhere within this post to visit the project gallery.)

Since 2006, this costume has been a personal labour of love.

Intense

I thought this shot was totally blown when I noticed that my fidgeting had resulted in a high shutter speed and a wide f/stop.

The Big Parade

•September 5, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Saturday morning, 10 a.m., is the big parade down Peachtree Street. For the D*C parade, anyone who wants to join in, can. There is a parade sign-up at registration, so all one has to do his drag his/her ass out of bed (harder than it sounds) and get on down to the staging area.

Peachtree Street is lined with people before 9:30. All the curbside viewing slots are gone by 9 a.m. This is a big deal. Everybody has a camera. Everybody knows what’s coming…except the chick standing next to me wandering what all the costumes are about. This weekend, Atlanta is a mixed bag of people and cultures. There are multiple college football game openers, there is a road race, and there is Dragon*Con.

Of course it’s really for the kids and the kid in all of us…

…sword of.

Of course, even fun things some times…
…dragon.

Photo with the most ‘hits’ – so far…
…go figure.

I know how this little one feels…

Immersion

No doubt about it, Dragon*Con ate me up and spat me out, yesterday. It is absolutely incredible to see soooo many people cramped into so little space. I now see why the advantage of taking on a persona from some fantasy world…when one of those folks walks through the room, everybody makes way, a few photos are taken, and then the hole refills with the unwashed (sometime literally) masses.

Sithlord Maliss
Look at me…now look at him. I don’t think he’s riding a horse.

So, after a long and tiring day, I can say…too many people…all very friendly people. I haven’t made it to any celebrity panels, I’m just having too much fun people watching. Sheesh…the humanity…the humanity.

The Mothership Is Ready For Boarding

•September 2, 2010 • 1 Comment

When I was a child, there was an episode of The Twilight Zone entitled ‘To Serve Man.’ In this episode a benign looking alien comes to earth and invites all humankind to come on back home with him and his buds. Heck, he even gave the United Nations a tome, that once the title was deciphered, read “To Serve Man.”  How great is that?! People start lining up and rocketing off to vacation on his benevolent world. Then, just as our hero is boarding the mothership, the rest of the book is deciphered to be…a cook book!! OMG: I was 11 years old when I saw that and I never, never forgot the shock when the secret (that I never saw coming) was revealed. That’s why I’m in this line.

So, here’s how it looks, looking back from the front of the queue. At this point I was asking myself, “What am I doing in this line.” Of course, I’m very glad that I’m not at the back of the line which now extends out the door of the hotel and around the block. I’m guessing that these late comers are going to be spending 3 or more hours in line to get their credentials. Ah! Youth. Such stamina!

cFinally! The front of the line!

Looks like the voluneer is still having fun with this, too.
